The contract is for advanced digital signalling system (ETCS Level 1), on a 167km section of the new network, marking a key strategic win for Progress Rail’s infrastructure division
Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, has secured a major contract for the signalling and telecommunications systems on Phase 2 of the State Railway of Thailand’s (SRT) ambitious double-track railway project.
The contract, signed with the Ch. Thawee–AS Construction Joint Venture (CH-AS JV), covers the 167km Khon Kaen–Nong Khai section of the new line, which includes 11 stations.
This is a significant win for Progress Rail’s high-tech infrastructure portfolio. The company will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a complete digital package, including:
- A Traffic Management System (TMS) for network operations.
- Computer-Based Interlocking (CBI) systems.
- European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 technology, covering both wayside (trackside) and onboard components.
This project is a critical component of Thailand’s national strategy to modernize its rail network, increasing capacity, safety, and efficiency.
For Progress Rail, this marks a major milestone. As noted by company leadership, this is their team’s first major wayside signalling project in Thailand, building upon previous successes with onboard systems. This win solidifies Progress Rail’s position not just as a rolling stock supplier, but as a key partner for advanced digital and signalling infrastructure in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific market.
