Siemens Opens €250M “Heavy AI” Train Factory in Munich, Triples Service Capacity

Siemens Mobility has officially opened one of Europe’s most advanced train factories and service centers in Munich-Allach. The expansion, a €250 million investment, will double the facility’s usable area and create over 500 new jobs. The upgraded plant will serve as a global competence center for Siemens, manufacturing both Vectron locomotives and Vectouro passenger cars under one roof. The facility is a flagship for “heavy AI,” integrating digital twins for design, AI-based software solutions, robotics, and laser-guided installation to transform its manufacturing process. Crucially, the expansion will also triple the location’s capacity for modern, AI-based train maintenance and service, allowing it to handle up to 80 locomotive overhauls and repairs annually. This move consolidates Siemens Mobility’s headquarters, R&D, production, and service into a single “Home of Vectron.”
